The taskforce of the Ashanti South Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited has cut power supply to the Asokwa Presbyterian School AstroTurf over debt owed to the company.
Sources told the Akoma FM Morning Show team that the place was disconnected two months ago, as part of efforts to reduce the debts of the company.
The Asokwa AstroTurf owes ECG GHC62,000.
For now, football lovers around the place cannot play football in the night due to disconnection of electricity to the place. This has also affected traders who do brisk business around the area in the night during games.
People were shocked about development since the committee members in charge of the management of the facility charged GHC200 per hour during the and GHC300 per hour in the night.
The Assemblyman for Asokwa, Akwasi Appiah confirmed the news to Akoma FM Morning Show host Sir John.
He said what they have in their coffers cannot settle the huge debt owed ECG.
He assured lovers of football that the committee members are working around the clock to resolve the issue.
Officials from Ashanti South Region of ECG said they had embarked on the aggressive revenue mobilisation drive as part of efforts to reduce the debt position of the national power provider which they said was affecting its operations.
