Manchester United secured their biggest win under Erik ten Hag, thrashing League One side Barnsley 7-0 to reach the EFL Cup last-16.
Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Christian Eriksen all netted twice, while Antony added a first-half penalty to complete the rout.
The victory marked United’s largest since their 9-0 win over Southampton in February 2021.
For Ten Hag, it was a particularly memorable night, as his team hit five goals for the first time under his leadership before Eriksen’s late brace made it even sweeter.
Summer signing Manuel Ugarte made his first start, impressing with a composed performance. The £50.5m midfielder controlled the game and showed glimpses of why Ten Hag believes his squad is finally nearing completion.
Barnsley were completely overwhelmed. Their standout moment came not on the pitch but when Clarke himself controlled a wayward ball with a slick piece of skill, drawing applause from the Old Trafford crowd.
With confidence boosted, Manchester United will now look to build on this momentum as they progress further in their EFL Cup
campaign.
