The Ghana Roads Transport Unions (GPRTU) has said that the recent 4% reduction in fuel prices will not warrant an immediate reduction in transportation fares.
The leadership of the Union contends that they do not take into consideration only fuel prices when determining transport fares but other components such as lubricants.
While petrol was reduced by GH¢1, diesel was also reduced by 58pesewas, a situation passengers thought could impact on transport fares.
The Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Alhaji Abass Morro, in an interview with Onua News, explained that for now, drivers will benefit most from the fuel price drop.
He cited that in a situation where a commercial driver earns GH¢20 per day. he may now earn GH¢25 due to the reduction in fuel prices.
Alhaji Morro urged Ghanaians to be patient, emphasizing that the reduction in fuel prices does not automatically translate into a decrease in transport fares.
He advised commercial drivers not to charge beyond approved fares.
