800,000 PVCs uncollected in Oyo –REC

Barely 22 days to the general elections in Oyo State, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Adeniran Tella, has revealed that about 800,000 uncollected Permanent Voter Cards still remain in their custody.

He made this revelation at the stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday at the Mock Voters’ Accreditation/Verification exercise, held at the INEC office in Ibadan.

Tella said, “The Commission is fully ready for the coming election as series of training are being conducted for both staff and ad-hoc staff members in order to have a seamless election in the state.

“Collection of PVCs at 33 INEC Local Government Area offices has been further extended for eight days with additional two hours which is expected to end on Sunday, February 5, 2023, starting from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. daily, Saturday and Sunday inclusive.

“As I speak to you, we have so far distributed over 402,321 PVCs in the state. We still have over 800,000 uncollected PVCs at our various 33 INEC LGA offices.

“I urge you to have your PVCs collected today because your PVC is your power on election day.”

On mock voters’ accreditation, the REC said the exercise was to conduct field tests across six councils of Akinyele, Atiba, Iseyin, Ogbomoso North, Ibadan North and Ido.

He said, “The purpose of the gathering is to inform you of the proposed Mock Voters’ Accreditation/Verification exercise in 12 of the Polling Units in three of the Senatorial Districts of the state.”

He added that the exercise would be coming up next Saturday from 8.00 a.m. to 2.30 pm accordingly in all the affected local government areas and Polling Units.
