Management row erupts between NSA and Tarkwa Nsuaem Assembly over TNA Stadium control

A management dispute has erupted between the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly over control of the TNA stadium.

The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation recently handed over the Tarkwa and Abosso (TNA) Stadium to the National Sports Authority (NSA) in August, after investing a whopping $16 million in its construction.

The Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly is unhappy with the National Sports Authority’s (NSA) maintenance of the TNA Stadium, just weeks after taking over. This tension has been brewing for a while, as the assembly and residents were initially against the NSA managing the stadium, citing concerns over the agency’s track record with state sporting facilities.

Due to widespread operational issues, Benjamin Kesse, The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) said he formed a committee to supervise the stadium’s management.

“Per the memorandum of understanding signed by the Municipal Assembly, NSA, and GoldFields, we decided to stay back and watch NSA, and what they have done to the stadium confirms that they have nothing to offer us,” Kessie remarked.

In response, NSA Deputy Director General, Bawa Majeed has dismissed this claim and affirmed that the NSA remains in charge.

“We can’t take possession of public property like that. The fact that the facility is in the Municipality does not mean it is for the Municipality alone “.He told Asempa FM.

Ghana’s stadium management woes have led to a damaging CAF ban, compelling the national team to host upcoming matches in foreign stadiums.
