Ghanaian musician and advocate Big Joe is appealing to Ghanaian governments to localized social and economic policies and projects to meet the needs of the people instead of imposing the government’s own agenda on the citizens.
He explained that the people within the localities would render their unflinching support for localized projects because they consider them as their own initiatives and want them to see the light of day.
In the event where a change of government occurs, the community would ensure that the successive government continues and completes the projects.
“When there is a change of government, the locals will see to it that the new government continues the project which will not be too difficult for the new government because the credit would not go to only the previous government but to everyone” Big Joe told Blakk Rasta in an interview on the 3FM Urban Blend on September 19.
According to the musician, he has observed with worry that after politicians persuade the electorates to win power, they fail to bring about any substantial positive changes into the lives of the people because of the disconnect between the central government and the locals.
Big Joe laments the economic hardships and social challenges Ghanaians are enduring as a result of governments’ insensitivity to the plight of the people and entreats the citizens to be awakened.
“The message is simple, we are suffering so we should shine our eyes. When we are hungry, and we need bread they give us butter and when we are thirsty, they give us beer”.
“Give us what we want and not what you want. The central government should not be deciding for our lives. We live in our communities and better know and understand our challenges and needs” he urges the government.
Big Joe believes that music is an effective way to capture his thoughts and the concerns of the people and bring them to the attention of the appropriate authorities for amicable solutions.
The latest single ‘Dumsor Presor’ from his upcoming album calls on politicians to refrain from the over politicization of national problems and projects as well as desist from political equalisation to collaborate among themselves and the local communities to ensure national development.
