Gomoa West DRIP clash: NDC constituency chairman Mohammed Kassim arrested

The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Gomoa West constituency chairman, Mohammed Kassim, has been arrested and detained at the Bakaano police station in Cape Coast.

It is unclear reasons for the chairman’s arrest but family sources suspect it may be in connection with a clash that occurred between members of the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the presentation of machinery for the District Road Infrastructure Project (DRIP) on Monday, September 16.

Mr. Kassim is reported to have been picked up from his home by some police personnel and has been in detention since Wednesday night.

Supporters of the NDC and the NPP clashed during the presentation.

The conflict is said to have began when NDC supporters confronted and questioned the decision to display posters of Bismark Basie Nkum, the NPP’s Gomoa West parliamentary candidate on the DRIP machinery.

The confrontation escalated into a physical scuffle where the Gomoa West Member of Parliament, Richard Gyan-Mensah is said to have pulled a gun and also stabbed the machine operator in a knife in the ear.

Richard Gyan-Mensah however denied the reports in a Citi News interview, saying “the reports that I used a gun are not true.”

Members of the NDC massed up at the police station, demanding the release of the chairman.
