We’re in court over EC’s disqualification of NDC’s Amenfi Central candidate – Edudzi Tamakloe – My XYZ online

The Head of Legal Affairs of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe, has said the party is seeking an injunction to restrain the Electoral Commission (EC) from proceeding with the printing of parliamentary ballot papers and notice of poll for the Amenfi Central constituency.

The legal practitioner said the party has already filed a writ in an Accra High Court to challenge the decision of the EC to disqualify the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Amenfi Central, Joana Cudjoe.

The EC in a letter signed by the Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, informed Madam Cudjoe of her disqualification on October 10, 2024.

The letter stated that the Commission is bound by the court order, which has neither been stayed nor vacated.

But speaking to Power kasiebo on TV XYZ, Edudzi Tamekloe described the decision of the EC as mischievous, stating that the Commission was a party to an interlocutory injunction against the candidate, Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s election in the May 12 primary.

He said the NDC was waiting for the court to hear the injunction case next week so they could proceed with the necessary action.

“We are seeking for injunction so we are urging all party members in the area to remain calm as we deal with the challenges,” Tamekloe stated.
