Monaco suffer injury blow as Mohammed Salisu spends time on the sidelines

AS Monaco’s defensive stalwart Mohammed Salisu has been ruled out of his side’s Ligue 1 clash against Lille on Friday, October 18 2024, after sustaining a hamstring injury while on international duty.

The Ghanaian centre-back, who has been instrumental in Monaco’s solid start to the season, picked up the injury during Ghana’s recent international break against Sudan in the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Despite a horror show in the October international window with his country, Ghana, who are seeking their  11th consecutive AFCON participation, the defender has been rock solid since the start of the current campaign for Monaco.

Salisu’s partnership with Tilo Kehrer has been a cornerstone of Monaco’s defensive stability, and his unavailability will force coach Hutter to reshuffle his backline. The 25-year-old’s injury is a setback for the Principality club, who have conceded just four goals in seven Ligue 1 outings.

Salisu’s absence will be a significant blow to coach Hutter’s plan, as Monaco seek to continue their upward trajectory in the French top flight.

Monaco will hope Salisu’s injury is not too severe, allowing him to return to action swiftly. For now, they must navigate the Lille challenge without their key defender.
