Hearts of Oak secured a 2-0 victory over Medeama SC at the TnA Stadium on Friday night, handing the hosts their first home defeat of the season.
The Phobians capitalised on defensive errors to seal a crucial win. Kwabena Boateng opened the scoring in the 63rd minute after taking advantage of a mistake by Medeama’s Nurudeen Abdulai, skillfully beating goalkeeper Appiah Kubi.
Mawuli Wayo, coming on as a substitute, extended Hearts’ lead with a powerful header in the 88th minute, outmanoeuvring Abdulai and Kamaradini Mamudu to beat Kubi for a second time. Despite dominating possession, Medeama struggled to convert opportunities, with forward Diawise Taylor missing several key chances.
The victory pushes Hearts of Oak up to seventh place in the league with 12 points, while Medeama remains in third with 15 points from nine matches.
Also on Friday, FC Samartex 1996 managed to snatch a 1-1 draw with Accra Lions FC. Abdul Shakun-Abubakar put Lions ahead in the 43rd minute, but a last-minute equalizer from Benedict Afful in added time allowed Samartex to leave with a point.
Defending champions Samartex are now in fourth place with 14 points, while Accra Lions are just above the relegation zone.
