Inaki Williams has voiced support for his brother Nico’s decision to turn down Barcelona’s offer over the summer, choosing instead to continue his career with Athletic Bilbao.
The younger Williams, who played a key role in Spain’s European Championship victory with two goals and an assist, had been strongly linked to the Catalan giants but ultimately decided to stay in Bilbao, where he was given the club’s iconic number 10 jersey.
Reflecting on the decision, Inaki shared on La Revuelta, a show on Spain’s LA 1 channel, “It was a very long and hard summer for Nico. It was a summer of having to make decisions. After several months, for me, he has made the right one.”
Inaki and Nico recently achieved a shared ambition by playing together in Europe for the first time when Bilbao faced AS Roma in the Europa League.
“Now we have fulfilled a dream, like the whole team. There are few of us who have been lucky enough to play in European competition with Athletic Club, and now we are going to fulfil the dream of many,” Inaki added.
Looking ahead, Bilbao’s next goal is to secure a spot in the Champions League. Currently, they trail the La Liga top four by two points, keeping their sights set on climbing the standings.
