The Concerned Youth of Asanteman has condemned the unwarranted attacks on the former President John Agyekum Kufuor by Mr. Dela Edem, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team.
This comes as a result of Mr. Edem implying that the former president’s confinement to a wheelchair is due his “evil deeds” when he was President.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Nana Agyenim Boateng, popularly known as Gyataba observed that they (responsible Asante Youth) view these derogatory remarks with utmost seriousness.
Adding that, former President John Agyekum Kufuor is an extraordinary statesman who has served with distinction, and commands colossal respect internationally.
According to Gyataba , since the derogative remarks were made, neither former President John Mahama nor any other party official have publicly dissociated themselves from it. Noting that this lack of response provides ample evidence that Mr. Mahama and his party are in tacit support of the attacks.
Gyataba further noted that they are not oblivious to the NDC’s longstanding tradition of undermining the “Asante People”. Emphasising that the current development is part of the “grand agenda” by the NDC to keep to its tradition of denigrating Asantes for political gain.
Gyataba further issued a 24 hour ultimatum for Mr. Dela Edem to immediately retract the offensive statements and render an unqualified apology to Mr. Kufuor. Noting, should Mr. Edem fail to do so, they will take appropriate action.
Gyataba added that it will not be surprising that the next target could be the AsanteAsantehene.
Gyataba further urged all well-meaning Asantes to rise against the malicious plans of the NDC, as well as reflecting deeply on the issue and come out in numbers to vote massively for the NPP in the December 7 elections. Noting that supporting the NPP is the surest way to protect our heritage, as a return to power by the NDC will spell an even worse fate for the Asante people.
