Our members will resume full work latest by November 25 – TEWU

The Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) has suspended its nationwide strike.

The Union took the decision after a directive by the National Labour Commission.

In a statement signed by the General Secretary of TEWU, King James Azortibah said the Union will continue to engage until their demands on the conditions of service are signed and implemented.

“At a meeting called at the instance of the National Labour Commission, on Wednesday 20th November, 2024, the Commission issued a directive that the strike should be called off, while the Union and our various managements concerned report back on Wednesday, 27th November, 2024, for the Commission to hear the substantive case,” he disclosed.

” In view of the NLC directive, the TEWU TUC Ghana leadership initiated immediate steps to engage the structures of the union to abide by the Commission’s orders. After the necessary consultation among the structures of the Union, regarding such matters, we therefore wish to announce to our various stakeholders that our industrial action has been suspended,” Mr Azortibah announced.

“It is expected that our cherished members will resume full work latest by Monday 25th November, 2024. We are counting on the National Labour Commission to swiftly help to address our grievances without feet dragging by any of our managements of the affected institutions to prevent disturbances on the industrial front,” he directed.

“We assure our cherished m members that, leadership of TEWU TUC Ghana is bent on ensuring that there will be finality to the issues of conditions of service of the affected institutions for immediate implementation,” he said.

” Our members are being shortchanged with the continuous delay in concluding and implementing the conditions of service and this cannot be allowed to continue,” the TEWU General Secretary assured.
