‘Lagos residents not under threat to vote APC’

The Lagos State House of Assembly Aspirants Forum on the platform of the All Progressives Congress says the electorate in the state are not under threat to vote for candidates of the party.

The Lagos State Police Command is currently investigating an audio clip in which two men threatened some residents and traders to vote for the ruling APC in the general elections or risk eviction from the Eti-Osa community.

The police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, who disclosed that the police were carrying out forensic analysis on the audio clip to identify those behind it, said a traditional ruler was alleged to be one of those who issued the threat and would be invited for questioning by the police.

Hundeyin added that the outcome of the police investigation would determine who would be called for questioning.

The chairman of the forum, Rotimi Gbajabiamila, while reacting to the development told The PUNCH that the belief of the party was to campaign to canvas for votes and not to issue threats to voters.

He said, “Nobody is meant to be threatened and I don’t believe that is true. We believe in love and unity. If we take a look at the success of the campaign so far, I don’t think that would be a necessary thing to do. When it comes to election, and as you know that we have oppositions, we have a lot of people trying to sabotage what we have done.

“So many things will come up and different people saying so many things about the leaders and all that.  So I don’t think anyone needs to be threatened and I am saying it again. Nobody is being threatened.”

He added that the essence of the forum’s Market Storm initiative was to reach out to different kinds of people in Lagos markets cutting across culture and tribes to canvass votes for candidates running on the platform of the party.

“I don’t believe in making trouble before we show our love for who we want. My advice for everybody is to come out in unity. Let us vote together. Let us show love by voting and not by quarrelling, not by fighting or by making troubles,” he added.
