Avoid NPP’s mistakes, stop state property destruction – Mahama warns

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning to supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to desist from destroying or looting state properties.

He emphasised the need for responsible behaviour to safeguard the trust and confidence of Ghanaians in the party.

Speaking at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving event at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, Mr Mahama called for discipline among party members.

I call on all our supporters and others engaged in illegal actions, such as looting goods and occupying government offices, to desist from such practices. We must do things differently to maintain the trust and confidence Ghanaians have placed in us,” he stated.

The President’s comments come in response to reports of alleged destruction and looting of state assets by individuals purportedly linked to the NDC.

He drew parallels with similar incidents attributed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2017, cautioning against repeating those mistakes.

Many have said it’s the same thing the NPP did in 2017, and that is why Ghanaians voted them out. We must not copy their mistakes. I plead with you, let us do things in an orderly manner,” he added.

Mr Mahama assured supporters that their concerns would be addressed through proper channels once the government’s administrative structure is fully established.

Government is being formed, ministers will be put in place, other officials will be appointed. And as I said, we will have our full cabinet in 14 days,” he noted.

He urged party members to exercise patience and channel grievances through appointed ministers once they assume their roles.

“If you have any issues, you consult any of the ministers and have it resolved. So, exercise restraint

    ,” he advised.
