President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to launch an investigation into the controversial National Cathedral project.
Speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service organised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), on Sunday, January 12, 2025, he emphasised his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“We will soon activate an investigation into the National Cathedral project,” President Mahama declared, adding that the location of the site might be changed if the project is to continue.
‘’…I believe that we can reach a more reasonable figure for achieving such a project and together we can raise the funding for it. Such a reconsideration for of this project might even include changing the current site that was chosen for the project.’’
‘’I leave the rest to any such future consultation that we will have as the body of Christ,’’ Mahama opined.
He also hinted at the need to review and allocate a more reasonable cost for its completion.
In his remarks, President Mahama also reiterated his determination to fight corruption and ensure that justice prevails during his tenure. ”We will fight corruption relentlessly”.
Reflecting on his electoral victory, the president expressed gratitude for the support of the clergy and the Ghanaian people. “This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our sight,” he said, promising to govern as a leader for all Ghanaians.
President Mahama also touched on key policy priorities, including addressing unemployment, prioritising healthcare, and completing all unfinished health facilities.
“We will uncap the National Health Insurance Levy and operationalise all health facilities,
” he noted.
