Instagram is ditching square profile grid posts for rectangles, a change rolling out over the weekend, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri announced Friday on his Instagram Story.
Why it matters
- “Square photos are the heritage of Instagram,” Mosseri said, but most uploads today are vertical.
- Cropping vertical content into squares “is a bummer,” he added, and the shift ensures more of your photos and videos appear as intended.
What he said
Mosseri acknowledged the adjustment might be a “bit of a pain” but called it a “transitional” inconvenience, believing users will appreciate the added visibility in the long run.
More updates
Instagram is also introducing a section in your Reels feed to showcase videos liked by friends.
