My ‘bribery’ comment was misinterpreted; I’m ready to apologise – Barker-Vormawor

Legal representative for Oliver Barker-Vormawor has explained that his client’s post about monies are being taken from the ministerial appointees to be given to the Appointments Committee for approval has been misunderstood.

Appearing before the Committee, lawyer for Oliver Barker-Vormawor, Nana Ato Dadzie said Barker-Vormwaor’s post was not to disparage members of the Committee, rather to expose some misconduct by third parties.

Although he admitted to making the post, he noted that it was not directed at the Appointments Committee.

However, Nana Ato Dadzie further apologised to the Committee on behalf of Vormawor and expressed his client’s willingness to withdraw the post.

“This statement here and the way it has been put out as though he intended to vilify this honourable committee is suddenly far away from what he intended the post to be and that it is only intended to expose some misconduct by other third parties affecting the work of the Committee,” he stated.

“We are not here to contend this particular issue…as a supporter of democracy he is ready willing and prepared to apologise for this misunderstand and also to withdraw the post,” he added.

According to his legal team, his statement which intended to expose some corrupt act goes a long way to align with the whistleblower’s act.

“Under the general rubric of citizenship, he is at liberty to put it out and advocate that that practice should stop,” Nana Ato Dadzie noted.
