IGP must arrest MPs who destroyed state properties – Prof. Gyampo

Political Science Analyst, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has called on Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, to make an immediate arrest of Parliamentarians who destroyed state property during the chaos at the ministerial vetting last Thursday.

During the ministerial vetting on January 30, some MPs destroyed microphones and tables in protest against the Majority caucus’ decision to proceed with the process despite their request to reschedule it from Thursday to Friday.

Speaking in an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues, Prof. Gyampo stated that such conduct by the Minority MPs should not be condoned.

“I have said that IGP Dampare is on record to have arrested Members of Parliament and government officials for violating traffic rules and it is not possible for people to destroy state properties and for us to sweep it under the carpet.

“So I am saying that we should go to the extent of asking IGP Dampare to arrest those culpable for destroying properties that we use my taxes and your taxes to procure,” he said on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

Prof. Gyampo commended Speaker for Bagbin for initiating punitive measures against the MPs involved in the incident including a two-weeks suspension for some four MPs.

He emphasised that the Majority Caucus is being overly tolerant of the Minority caucus which he believes is a contributing factor for the Minority “wanting to now dictate as to how things must be done.”
