Afenyo-Markin’s conduct ‘unfortunate and unbecoming’ – Ahiafor demands apology to Clerk

Chairman of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, has called on Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to apologize to the Clerk of the Committee, describing his actions as “unfortunate, uncalled for, and unbecoming of a Member of Parliament.”

Speaking on the recent tensions surrounding the vetting process, Ahiafor defended the Clerk, insisting that she acted impartially during proceedings.

The Clerk wasn’t partisan. What he (Afenyo-Markin) did to the Clerk is unfortunate, uncalled for, and unbecoming of a Member of Parliament. I expect him (Afenyo-Markin) to apologize to the Clerk of the Committee rather than going around defending his character.”

Ahiafor further suggested that the Minority’s frustrations stem from their 2024 election defeat, which continues to influence their actions in Parliament.

It’s rather unfortunate that the Minority side are still bleeding from the election defeat. I apologize to the Clerk on behalf of the Committee,” he stated in an interview with TV3 on Monday, February 3, 2025.

Ahiafor also expressed concerns about the nature of questioning during the vetting process, noting that some inquiries were unnecessary.

I’m worried about some questions asked during vetting. Some questions that will create humor are allowed during the vetting.

Despite the ongoing tensions, Ahiafor reaffirmed that the vetting process would proceed, emphasizing the need for professionalism and decorum.

“To some extent, I feel disrespected during vetting, but in every society, there are some who are morally upright and dissident,” he added.
