The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has launched the National Broadband Alliance for Nigeria (NBAN) to expand internet access nationwide.
The initiative targets schools, hospitals, religious centers, and markets to drive broadband adoption.

Why it matters
NBAN aligns with Nigeria’s National Broadband Plan (2020–2025) and aims to bridge the country’s digital divide through a multi-stakeholder approach.
How it works
- The initiative brings together state governments, telecom operators, and infrastructure firms to accelerate broadband deployment.
- A pilot program will launch in eight states: Edo, Ogun, Kwara, Katsina, Imo, Abia, Borno, and Nasarawa.

The challenge
- Internet penetration in Nigeria (44%) lags behind South Africa (74.7%) and Egypt (72.2%).
- 4G coverage is at 47%, while 5G adoption is just 2.4%, two years post-launch.
