Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has welcomed a delegation from the United Nations led by H.E. Charles Abani, UN Resident Coordinator in Ghana, to his residence.
The delegation paid the visit to him on Tuesday, February 4.
H.E. Abani, delivered a message on behalf of the United Nations.
He expressed appreciation for his contributions to Ghana’s peace, democracy and development.
H.E. Charles Abani particularly highlighted Dr Bawumia’s vision and initiatives for Ghana’s digital economic transformation he championed as Vice-President and his early concession in the 2024 elections.
“I reiterated my conviction that, as Politicians, national interest must always supersede personal ambition.
“My thanks to the UN for their kind words and support for Ghana’s progress,” the 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) wrote on his Facebook page.
Under his leadership, the Akufo-Addo government implemented several policies and initiatives that were aimed at leveraging technology to improve service delivery and create a more efficient economy.
The implementation of the Ghana Card, Digital Address System, Mobile Money Payments Interoperability System, etc, in Ghana, became the cornerstones of this digital transformation.
The Ghana Card initiative is one of Dr. Bawumia’s most notable accomplishments in the field of digitization. The Ghana Card is a biometric national identity card that is intended to collect personal information and biometric data from all Ghanaian citizens and residents.
