Mrs. Alma Pokua Adade-Prempeh, wife of the NPP 2024 vice-presidential candidate and former Minister of Energy, has unveiled the ‘Empowering Better Life Foundation’ (EBLF), an initiative aimed at enhancing the well-being and empowerment of children, adolescents, and vulnerable communities.
The foundation’s mission is to prioritise mental health, inclusive education, menstrual hygiene, financial literacy, and ethical leadership, ultimately creating a society that fosters holistic development.
During her introductory speech at the launch event at the African Regent Hotel in Accra, Mrs. Adade-Prempeh described the day as “the realisation of a vision to empower lives and transform communities.”
She expressed her deep honour at officially launching the foundation, stating, “This moment is not just the fulfilment of a dream but the beginning of a movement—one that seeks to empower lives and transform communities.”
In her address, Mrs. Adade-Prempeh highlighted the significant challenges facing Ghana, including the need for better mental health awareness and support, particularly for young people who often suffer in silence.
She also raised concerns about the lack of resources for families, educators, and caregivers, emphasising the importance of creating safe spaces and support systems for children with special learning needs.
Additionally, she stressed the importance of menstrual hygiene, noting how many adolescent girls miss school due to inadequate access to sanitary products and education on menstrual health.
She highlighted the critical need for financial literacy, stressing that understanding money and making informed financial decisions are vital skills that should be integrated into education systems.
Special guest, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Commonwealth Secretary-General and former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, commended the foundation’s focus on mental wellbeing, inclusive education, and financial literacy.
She emphasised the importance of collaboration, ethical leadership, and human dignity in driving inclusive progress. Reaffirming the foundation’s alignment with core principles of democracy, human rights, and good governance, Madam Ayorkor Botchwey encouraged all stakeholders to work together for transformative change.
She concluded by underscoring the need for a united approach to address the challenges of mental health, education, financial insecurity, and ethical leadership, calling on policymakers, civil society, and the international community to collaborate for a brighter future.
