Asante Kotoko will take on Legon Cities in a Ghana Premier League clash at the Baba Yara Stadium, aiming to bounce back and honor their late supporter, Nana Pooley.
Legon Cities claimed a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture on October 30, 2024, and recent encounters between the two sides have been closely contested. Since April 2022, both teams have secured two wins each, with two games ending in draws. Kotoko have netted nine goals in those meetings, while Legon Cities have scored eight.
Head coach Prosper Nettey Ogum has highlighted the threat posed by former Kotoko captain Emmanuel Gyamfi, emphasizing the need for tactical discipline.
“They have a new coach and have been performing well lately. I’m sure they are very determined to make history by beating us home and away. Look at the players they have brought in, especially Emmanuel Gyamfi. He knows and understands the game.
All we need to do against Legon Cities is to be careful when we don’t have the ball and ensure that when we do, the necessary tactical maneuvers are executed on time.”
Kotoko are eager to recover from their recent 1-0 defeat to Nsoatreman on February 2. Despite that setback, they have had a solid campaign, winning 10 of their 19 matches, drawing four, and losing five.
The Porcupine Warriors currently sit 3rd on the league table with 34 points, just two behind leaders Hearts of Oak
.
Legon Cities however are 15th on the League table with 17 points.
