Producers of Sankofa Natural Spices have officially launched its “Good Food for All – Didi Yie” project at the James Camp Prisons, Accra.

The event, which came off on Saturday, March 8, 2025 was designed to promote healthy living through nutritious meal and to bring the benefits of proper nutrition to all Ghanaians, including the less privileged.

A study by the National Library of Medicines has shown that unhealthy diets contribute to the burden of noncommunicable diseases and premature mortality globally.

A diverse array of nutritionally balanced meals was prepared using Sankofa Natural Spices – free of preservatives, MSG, and salt – to promote healthy eating, and these dishes were served to all inmates.

Marketing Lead for Sankofa Natural Spices, Rosemary Sackey, reiterated the purpose of the project saying, “We have come to realize the need for everyone to eat right and eat well to be healthy. This project was born out of our commitment to reach the less privileged and show them the love and care they deserve.”

She added that “Good Food For All” projects, also is to serve as a unique opportunity for inmates to engage with the outside world.

Officer in Charge for James Camp Prisons, Augustina Mensah-Fiadzo, also praised the initiative.

She noted that rehabilitation efforts have long been hidden from public view, and by engaging external partners, the prison now provides a window into the significant work being done to prepare inmates for life beyond its walls.

“We mandate safe custody, rehabilitation, and reformation. For too long, our work within the prison has been hidden. Today, the public sees our efforts to help inmates prepare for life beyond these walls. After long periods of isolation, our inmates need opportunities to interact, develop talents, and rediscover their potential.”

The event saw the inmate engage in different fun activities such as rapping, dancing among other activities designed to make them feel loved and appreciated.

Mrs. Mensah-Fiadzo stressed that by providing controlled and secure access to external partners, the prison is able to showcase the talents developed within its walls and offer additional support to the inmates.

Through series of talent show activities that was held, The ‘Good Food For All’ also spotlighted the talents cultivated during their time in custody. For instance, a promising musician has already emerged from within the facility—a talent that could flourish further with the right support and mentorship.

Producers of Sankofa Natural Spices plans to extend the “Good Food for All” project beyond the prison walls by visiting communities and organizations in need. Through cooking demonstrations and interactive exercises, the company aims to spread the gospel of healthy eating while engaging and uplifting those often forgotten by society.
