AIB’s 2024 US Southeast Chapter Conference Explores Diverse Markets and Innovations

The Academy of International Business’s US Southeast Chapter (AIB US-SE) held its Annual Conference on October 24-26, 2024, at the Chaifetz School of Business on the Saint Louis University campus. Hosted by the Boeing Institute of International Business and partnered with corporate host, Maritz, the conference welcomed over 180 attendees from 28 different countries from around the world in academia and industry.

Conference attendees were treated to a keynote presentation from AIB President, Dr. Gary Knight, an executive keynote presentation featuring President and CEO of Maritz, David Peckinpaugh, and numerous other panels and research presentations centered toward the conference theme – Global Business Unbounded: Navigating Diverse Markets and Innovations.

Dr. Wendy Ritz, 2024 AIB US-SE Conference Chair, spoke on the process of collaborating with Saint Louis University on this event:

“Last weekend’s academic conference on the stunning Saint Louis University campus was a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of being physically present for connecting and networking. The attendees continue to post online about the campus’ beauty and a sense of security while exploring the city’s treasures—from the majestic Arch to the serene Forest Park and impressive Saint Louis Zoo. Together, we not only shared knowledge but also created lasting memories in a truly vibrant environment.”

Over 50 X-Culture students were also in attendance. X-Culture is an international educational program that helps students and professionals learn about business and other cultures through real-world experience. This year’s X-Culture students represented international teams that competed to solve a case created in collaboration by Maritz and X-Culture faculty.

Reflecting on the event, Dr. Hadi Alhorr, Director of the Boeing Institute of International Business, highlighted several areas of synergy between the AIB US-Southeast Chapter and its 2024 Conference Host:

“As the oldest University West of the Mississippi, Saint Louis University has been playing a crucial role in the economic prosperity of the region. One of the university’s strategic goals is to ensure that our academic and professional programs have a global perspective.  More specifically, the Boeing Institute of International Business, since its inception in 1984, has focused on academic and corporate outreach programs centered around international business issues. We would like to be perceived as a robust catalyst for international business research and we strive to be part of a larger community, such as the Academy of International Business, that is actively deciphering through the complexities of global business. Hence, hosting the AIB US-SE conference on our campus was organic as it is aligned with our mission and brings us closer to this community.”
