Ari Van Assche Selected to Serve as Next JIBP Editor-in-Chief

The Executive Board of the Academy of International Business (AIB), the leading global association for the promotion and dissemination of international business scholarship, is pleased to announce the next Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Business Policy (JIBP). JIBP is the principal outlet for theoretical and empirical research in all areas of policy that relate to international business. Launched in 2016 and having published its inaugural issue in 2018, the journal is already being recognized for its academic quality, impact, and relevance, by being added to Clarivate’s Emerging Sources Citation Index and to the Scopus index. Its initial Scopus score of 11.8 ranks JIBP #20 of 423 journals in the Business & International Management category. Its inaugural Web of Science Article Influence Score of 4.1 ranks JIBP #9 of all Business journals.

Dr. Ari Van Assche has been selected as JIBP’s next Editor-in-Chief. Ari is a Professor of International Business at HEC Montréal (Canada). He is also Director of the International Institute for Economic Diplomacy, Fellow-in-Residence at the CD Howe Institute, and Principal Researcher at CIRANO. Outside of Canada, Ari is a Visiting Professor at Reading University’s Henley Business School (United Kingdom) and a frequent consultant to international organizations including the Asian Development Bank, OECD, and World Bank. He has served as JIBP’s Deputy Editor since its founding in 2016 and sits on the editorial boards of several other academic journals. Within AIB, he plays an active role in developing the organization’s collaboration with UNCTAD and the World Investment for Development Alliance (WIDA). In terms of research, Ari is the co-author of three books, including Redesigning Canadian Trade Policy for New Global Realities, which in 2018 received the prestigious Doug Purvis Memorial Prize in Canada. He has also published numerous refereed articles in leading journals in the fields of international business, economic geography, and international economics.

Dr. Van Assche will succeed JIBP’s founding Editor-in-Chief, Sarianna Lundan, who successfully established the journal and guided it onto an upwardly mobile trajectory by promoting international business research that is both scientifically rigorous and policy relevant. Dr. Van Assche will continue the journal on this path under the motto “publishing the best of international business research for better policy.” According to Ari and his editorial team, JIBP aims to be the world’s leading knowledge hub for policy-oriented research on international business issues, where scholars in international business and cognate fields publish their best work, and policy professionals turn for impactful policy insights. His editorial team will champion this vision by prioritizing multidisciplinary, evidence-based research that can positively influence policy debates, especially on topics related to human development, sustainable development goals, political economy and geopolitics. The team will also actively seek to expand its engagement with the policy community, by reaching out to collaborate actively with supranational organizations, NGOs and policy makers, thereby directly impacting policy at multiple levels.
