Asamoah Gyan postpones All Regional Games to 2025

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has announced that the All Regional Games, initially scheduled to commence this year, will now be postponed until 2025.

Launched in July 2024, the event aims to uncover sporting talent across Ghana, and trials had already begun to select top athletes.

In a statement, Gyan explained that the postponement is intended to allow for “an even bigger and more impactful event.”

The new date for the competition is expected to be announced soon.

Each region was tasked with conducting trials to identify promising sportsmen and women aged 18 to 23, who were set to compete against their counterparts from other regions.

The competition is set to feature nine sports disciplines: Football, Athletics, Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Boxing, E-sports, and Arm-wrestling.

The statement also reassured registered athletes that their data remains secure, promising priority for the 2025 edition.

New athletes will also be welcomed, with rigorous regional trials in place to ensure fair selection and representation.

Gyan had previously aligned himself with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the All Regional Games, serving as chairman of the Youth and Sports sub-committee for the party’s manifesto team.

However, he renounced his membership six months later to focus on humanitarian work, stating that he had not “been fair to the youth and the people of Ghana.”
