Asante Kotoko charged for improper conduct by GFA following Legon Cities clash

Asante Kotoko have been charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for breaching the football governing body’s rule after their fans were alleged to have acted improperly in Wednesday’s outstanding Ghana Premier League fixture against Legon Cities at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The said incident transpired in the second half of Kotoko’s clash against Legon Cities when the alleged supporters of the away side were dissatisfied with refereeing decisions taken against them. This in turn led to the disgruntled fans hurling cups and items onto the pitch, leading to a temporary hold-up in play.

The resumption of the game saw Kotoko respond from the penalty spot after going down 1-0 in the first half against the Royals. Albert Amoah expertly dispatched his penalty into Legon Cities’ net to move his tally to five for the season and get the Porcupine Warriors back on track.

However, a late stoppage-time goal from Legon Cities’ Rahim Yaya Abdul sealed the points for the hosts as Kotoko suffered their first defeat of the season, while Legon Cities recorded their first victory of the season.

Kotoko, who are second in the league behind Bibiani Gold Stars, have until November 5, 2024, to respond to the charges being metered out against them.
