Ayews’ spokesperson criticises Otto Addo after AFCON qualification failure

Fiifi Tackie, spokesperson for Black Stars players Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew has criticised head coach Otto Addo following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Tackie questioned Addo’s leadership and accountability, referencing the coach’s comments about his experience with renowned managers like Jürgen Klopp.

“Otto Addo’s claims of working with Klopp don’t excuse his failure to qualify us for the 24-team tournament. His inability to achieve this goal raises questions about his leadership. Ghana deserves better,” Tackie posted on Facebook.

He further dismissed Addo’s remarks as deflection rather than taking responsibility for the team’s poor performance. “Blaming others or boasting about past associations won’t improve our football. We need accountability and results. Unfortunately, Addo’s comments come across as deflecting responsibility.”

Ghana’s dismal qualification campaign has seen the Black Stars earn just three points from five matches, marking their first failure to qualify for the AFCON since 2004. Addo, who signed a 34-month contract in his second stint, has come under fire for delivering only two wins in nine games.

Tackie insisted on the need for a shift in football management as the Ghana FA Executive Council prepares to meet on Wednesday.

“Ghana should strive for higher standards in football management. We need coaches who deliver, not just talk,” he added.

The GFA meeting is expected to address the growing calls for accountability and reform within Ghana football, with Addo’s future at the centre of discussions.
