Black Queens to face Egypt or Rwanda in 2026 WAFCON qualifiers

Ghana’s Black Queens face a daunting task in the 2026 Women African Cup of Nations (WAFCON ) qualifiers as they are set to face one of Rwanda or Egypt in the second round qualifying stage.

After failing to qualify for the 2022 edition of the highly-regarded competition, Nora Hauptle’s side will seek to secure successive WAFCON qualifications having already earned a berth in next year’s edition which is slated to be held in Morocco but they need to pass the second round qualification huddle.

Ghana, who obtained a bye in the first round of qualifiers due to their FIFA rankings, will begin competing in the second round where they have to meet the winner of the encounter between Rwanda and Egypt.

Ghana was one of the top six seeded countries, alongside Zambia, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Cameroon, and South Africa, that bypassed the first round courtesy of their FIFA rankings.

A total of 38 African nations will compete for one of the 12 available spots in the final phase for the prestigious tournament, alongside host nation Morocco.

The second qualifiers will take place in two rounds of home-and-away ties and the matches are scheduled to take place between October 20 and 28, 2025 while the first round fixtures are set to take place between February 17 to 26, 2025.
