Hundreds of residents in the Sekondi Takoradi metropolis gathered for the highly anticipated “Connect Sweat” health walk, an annual event organized by Connect FM, a Takoradi based media generals radio station.
This year’s event marked the second edition since its inception.
Despite being in its early stages, the program has gained widespread acceptance, attracting numerous corporate institutions, organizations, and keep-fit clubs from the metropolis.
The 10-kilometer health walk kicked off at the Connect FM premises, winding its way through Tadisco, Down, Anaji, CK Mann, Effia Kuma Police Park, New Site, and Market Circle.
Along the route, participants grooved to lively tunes spun by DJ Magnus, while others jammed to the infectious sounds of a brass band, keeping energy levels high. The walk ultimately concluded at the Takoradi Mall.
Upon arrival at the mall, participants were treated to an aerobics session led by gym instructors and security personnel, adding a fun and engaging element to the event
Representatives from the cooperating institutions that sponsored the event, including First Bank Ghana, Imperial Assurance, Astolink, and Twisco from Promasidor, shared their thoughts and remarks during the occasion.
Enoch Vanderpuye is the Country Team Lead for Marketing and Corporate Communications at First Bank Ghana, the major sponsor of the Connect Sweat event.
“At First Bank Ghana, we believe that health is synonymous with wellness. This philosophy drove our decision to partner with Connect FM to promote wellness through initiatives like the 2025 edition of Connect Sweat Health Walk. The event, which commenced at the Connect FM premises and wound its way through Takoradi’s principal streets, has been an exhilarating experience.”
“The entire First Bank team is thrilled to be part of this endeavor. Having kicked off the year with a health walk in Accra aimed at boosting physical and mental well-being, we’re delighted to bring this initiative to Takoradi.”
The sponsors expressed their satisfaction with the impressive turnout, stating that they have no regrets about supporting the event.
“Partnering with Connect FM has been a highly rewarding experience. The exposure we’ve gained for our brand has been invaluable, and we’re already seeing tangible results. Many participants in the walk have been inquiring about our location, expressing interest in doing business with us – a clear indication of the partnership’s success.”
Our lens captured a heartwarming moment during the aerobics session, as an elderly woman was spotted enthusiastically participating among the crowd.
“I typically walk alone, but today I decided to join this event to gain more motivation and strength. The feeling I have after walking for several hours is incredible – I feel rejuvenated, refreshed, and invigorated, as if I’ve tapped into a new reserve of energy and strength.”
Some participants who took part in the health walk shared their thoughts, expressing concerns and feedback about the event.
“I’m thoroughly impressed with the turnout, as it’s clear that people have come to recognize the importance of regular exercise. Personally, I’ve been hearing the advertisements for this event on the radio for about a month now, and I felt compelled to join in.
“It’s been an exhilarating experience, and although I already make it a point to go for walks every weekend, I was drawn to this event by Connect FM’s popularity. I’m glad I decided to come and be a part of it.”
The Chief Executive Director of Elisa Musical center, a valued client of Connect FM, lavished praise on the program, commending the organizers for a highly successful event.
“Exercising is incredibly beneficial, as I’ve experienced firsthand. Last week, my blood pressure reading was around 160, but after today’s long-distance walk, I checked again at the health screening and was pleased to see it had dropped to 107.
“The healthcare professionals informed me that this is a good reading . And I recommended that connect Fm should make this event at least twice a year, or even quarterly, to maintain my health.”
Michael Gawu serves as the Event and Promotions Manager at Connect FM.
“The success of this event can be attributed to our meticulous planning from the early stages, coupled with continuous awareness creation and promotions. Although a lot of effort went into making this happen, I’m extremely satisfied with the outcome. I’m confident that next year’s event will be even more successful, building on the momentum we’ve established,” he assured.
Benjamin Quansah, Head of Sports at Connect FM, took the opportunity to express his heartfelt gratitude to the sponsors, supporters, and loyal listeners of Connect FM for the overwhelming love and support shown to the station.
“I’m thoroughly impressed with the overwhelming turnout today. It’s clear that the community has embraced the idea of prioritizing fitness and exercise.”
