‘Enough is Enough’ demo: Organisers will be held responsible for any breaches – Police

The Ghana Police Service has served notice to hold organisers of the ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration accountable should any irregularities happen.

According to the Police, all responsibilities and cautions have been communicated to the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) leadership and it expects the party and its sympathisers to adhere to them.

“The organisers of the demonstration have been duly notified of their responsibilities under Section 3 of the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).”

“The organisers have been informed of their duty to abide by all other laws since they will be held responsible for any breaches,” Director of Public Affairs of the Police, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, told the media on Monday, September 16.

Having cautioned the organisers, the NDC, the Police also encouraged participants to “adhere to these arrangements and ensure full compliance with all laws and regulations.”

The ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration by the NDC is against the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

The party believes the voter register for the 2024 elections is full of inaccuracies and possibly bloated to favour a political party.

It is demanding an immediate audit of the register, a call the Electoral Commission has denied after its investigations found that the register is credible and robust.

Despite the assurances, the NDC is ready to embark on the nationwide protest to pile more pressure on the Commission for the audit to ensure transparency and trust in the electoral process.

With all the routes for the demonstration communicated, the Police has assured of adequate security measures to guarantee a seamless protest.

“The Ghana Police Service would like to inform the public that adequate measures have been put in place to provide security for the planned demonstration…”

“We would also like to once again assure the public that the Police will ensure the maintenance of security, law and order throughout the period of the exercise and beyond,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi added.
