The Ghana Police Service has arrested Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, the owner of Nsoatreman FC, in connection with the violent disturbances that occurred during the February 2, 2025, Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at Nsoatre in the Bono Region.
The disturbances tragically resulted in the death of a Kotoko supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
Baffour-Awuah, a former Minister of State and Member of Parliament for Sunyani West was apprehended along with two other individuals, Agyemang Duah Owusu and Kyeremeh Joseph.
All three suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting in the investigation. The police have revealed that a search of Owusu’s room led to the discovery of two dresses with suspected bloodstains, as well as an MP 23 pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition.
In a statement, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and the leadership of Asante Kotoko, assuring them that the police are committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
A special team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters has been deployed to assist the Bono Regional Police Command with the investigation.
