The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed the January 3, 2025, reopening date for Senior High Schools (SHSs).
This comes amidst concerns raised by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) regarding unresolved financial issues.
But in a press release issued on January 2, 2025, the GES reiterated that the 2024/25 academic calendar remains unchanged.
Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head of the Public Relations Unit at GES, noted that, “SHS students are expected to report back to school on January 3rd, 2025, while primary and Junior High Schools will reopen on January 8th, 2025.”
While the reopening date remains firm, Ms. Twum Ampofo acknowledged the concerns raised by CHASS. “We are actively engaging the Ministry of Education to address these concerns,” she stated.
The GES urged all stakeholders, including students, parents, and teachers, to take note of the reopening dates and make necessary preparations.
This confirmation comes after a December 31, 2024, appeal from CHASS, requesting a postponement of the reopening date. CHASS expressed concerns regarding outstanding debts for food supplies and operational expenses at schools.
