Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons gets E-Library to boost medical research

An electronic library and a Fellows Lounge have been handed over to the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra.

The project was solely financed by Dr Ernest Kwarko, former Board Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority; also a Fellow of the College.

The electronic library will assist fellows of the College in their medical research. The sponsor, Dr Kwarko was delighted in the completion of the projects.

“This is a dream come true. I trained here and obtained my fellowship here, but during our time, we didn’t have modern facilities. We really struggled to access learning materials. So, when I heard the College needed partners to refurbish the library, I had no hesitation in offering my support,” he said.

The library is named after the first Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Professor Paul K. Nyame.

The lounge was also named after the late Prof Plange-Rhule, also a former Rector of the College

Dr Kwarko described both men as outstanding individuals whose respective roles have helped sustain the College.

“We are grateful to the two individuals because Prof. Nyame played a key role in ensuring the institution’s survival and growth and the late Rector Prof. Plange-Rhule always encouraged and believed in the principle of relaxing after working so hard,” Dr Kwarko noted.

Prof. Nyame expressed his appreciation for the honour done him.

“It is easy to be forgotten, but seeing this renewed facility reminds me that some people still remember our efforts, that is fulfilling,” he said.
