Ghanaians are hypocrites – Ade Coker reacts to arrest of Suame NDC Organiser

A former Greater Accra Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Joseph Ade Coker has described Ghanaians who are jubilating over the arrest of the Suame NDC youth organiser as hypocrites.

The young lad, Razak Koampa Avoliya, has been remanded for comments police has tagged offensive and conducive to breaches of peace of the state after a he incited NDC members in a viral video.

Although he does not support the comments made by the young man, Ade Coker believes Razak would not have been arrested if he was a “big man,” pointing out that some influential political figures did the same or worse but went scot-free.

“It is not today that people started talking about hate speech. Some people endorsed hate speeches, and it brought them to government, some insulted people, some threatened people, including some people who decided to help Ghana; we sat down and said nothing,” Ade Coker said on Accra-based Atinka TV.

He continued, “I remember at some point, someone who now wants to be a flagbearer for the NPP said sad things. When he was arrested, some people went to do demonstrations at the police headquarters to free him. Kennedy Agyapong said when we see Ga’s, we should kill them, and when we see Ewes, we should kill them in the same Ashanti Region. Now he wants to be president. “They said he had no locus when he was sent to court, so this NDC guy also has no locus.”

“I am not saying they should continue to do that; you created a matter, and a lot of people have queued for it…When we did the elections, look at the people who were killed at Techiman. Have they arrested those who did it? If we say we are going to go on hypocritical terms, Ghana will not prosper; Ghanaians are hypocrites,” he fumed and asked for a spade to be called by its name.

    Background

Razak was seen in viral video making what the police describes as comments that had the tendency to incite political violence.

The comments were made last week when he was being interviewed by Kumasi-based Oyerepa TV after a party public event in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region.

After police declared him wanted over the comments, the NDC handed him to the police.

He was arraigned on Thursday, Feb 9, 2023 at the District Court presided over by Fred Obikyere on the charge of offensive conduct.

The plea of Razak was not taken when he and his lawyer appeared before the Court.

The prosecution led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kofi Blagodzie, pleaded with the court to remand the accused person to allow police more time for investigation.

The lawyer for accused, Evans Amankwah opposed the application and said the accused was not a flight risk and would not interfere with police investigation.

The court, however, upheld the application by the prosecution and remanded the accused into police custody.

He  is to reappear on February 14, 2023.
