Ghana witnessed an impressive number of Guinness World Record breakers in 2024.
As the year comes to a close, let’s celebrate these extraordinary individuals and their remarkable achievements.
1. Abdul Hakim Awal
Abdul Hakim Awal set the record for the longest time hugging a tree, achieving a duration of 24 hours, 21 minutes, and 4 seconds. This feat took place in Kumasi from 22 to 23 May 2024. Abdul undertook this challenge to raise awareness about the importance of afforestation.
2. Abubakar Tahiru
Abubakar Tahiru, a forestry student at Auburn University, earned the title for the most trees hugged by an individual in one hour. He hugged 1,123 trees in Auburn, Alabama, USA, on 25 March 2024.
3. Akosua Mantey Roselyn
Akosua Mantey Roselyn set the record for the longest marathon applying makeup, clocking 103 hours, 25 minutes, and 33 seconds on 3 April 2024. Through this attempt, Akosua aimed to raise awareness about teaching vocational skills to reduce early marriages in certain countries.
4. Jephthah Osarfo Appiah
Jephthah Osarfo Appiah secured the record for the longest video game marathon playing a football (soccer) game by an individual. He played for 100 hours and 7 minutes in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, from 1 to 6 May 2024.
5. André Ayew
Ghana’s Black Stars captain, André Ayew, equaled the record for the most appearances in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by a player, with a total of 36 appearances. This record was first achieved by Rigobert Song (Cameroon) from 13 January 1996 to 31 January 2010 and later matched by André Ayew from 20 January 2008 to 22 January 2024.
6. Felicity Asantewaa
Felicity Asantewaa broke the record for the most cars washed in eight hours by an individual, cleaning 60 cars on 9 March 2024.
7. Chelsea-Abigail Owusu Ansah
Chelsea-Abigail Owusu Ansah earned the Guinness World Record for the most heads of hair locked by an individual in eight hours, locking 27 heads on 6 March 2024. Passionate about her craft, Chelsea has worked tirelessly to make hair-locking her profession.
