Government has spent GH¢33 billion on enhancing healthcare infrastructure – Akufo-Addo

In the quest to advance national development, the government has made significant investments in health and education, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said.

He revealed that the government has spent GH¢33 billion on enhancing healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to all Ghanaians.

This investment, he said, is evident in the completion of various health facilities across the country, including the University of Ghana Medical Centre, Wa Regional Hospital, and the major rehabilitation of Tamale Teaching Hospital.

“These efforts are part of our broader agenda to achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2030, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” he said on Monday, 29th July 2024, when he received his 6th honorary doctorate degree, this time from the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).

The President further stated that another significant milestone of the ceremony was the commissioning of the $60 million UHAS Phase II project.

This expansion will increase the University’s capacity to train more health professionals, bridging the gap between our population’s healthcare needs and the available skilled workforce, he said.

“With state-of-the-art facilities and resources, UHAS will be at the forefront of health research and innovation, positioning Ghana as a leader in healthcare on the continent. We extend our deepest appreciation to the Government and People of the People’s Republic of China for their generous support in this endeavor.

“As we reflect on these achievements, I am reminded of the importance of vision, hard work, and perseverance. Our journey is far from over, and we remain committed to improving healthcare and education for all Ghanaians. Thank you, UHAS, for this great honour, and may God bless our homeland Ghana,” Mr Akufo-Addosaid.
