Hearts of Oak charged for allowing unaccredited persons into Safe Zone

Accra Hearts of Oak have been charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for allegedly permitting unaccredited individuals into the restricted Safe Zone at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Ahead of the league’s resumption, the GFA’s Club Licensing Board had raised security concerns regarding the stadium, particularly related to the Safe Zone.

A statement from the FA read:

“Accra Hearts of Oak SC have been charged with breaches of Article 8(e) of the GFA Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols, 2025, and Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Ghana Premier League Regulations, 2019, following their Ghana Premier League game against Young Apostles FC.

It is alleged that the club allowed unaccredited persons, specifically its supporters, to enter the Safe Zone to celebrate—an act that constitutes misconduct and brings the game into disrepute.

They have until Tuesday, March 11, 2025, to respond to the charges.”*

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak sit at the top of the Ghana Premier League table after their 2-0 victory over Young Apostles. Goals from Michael Awuah and Hamza Issah secured the win as the Phobians continued their impressive run.

Hearts currently lead the standings with 36 points, two ahead of Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars, who have a game in hand.
