Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken a swipe at President Akufo Addo for unveiling a statue of himself in the Western Region.
John Mahama says honouring illustrious sons of the land should be done with admiration and by people who appreciate the impact they make but not to be imposed on the masses.
Addressing a mini durbar at Budumbram in the Central Region on Friday, November 8,2024 as part of his campaign in the region, Mr Mahama called out President Akufo Addo for building the Statue for himself and hoodwinking Universities to give him honorary degrees.

Ghanaians have been reacting to the unveiled statue of President Akufo Addo by himself l at the entrance of Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi.
The unveiling was part of his one-day “thank you” tour of the Western Region on Wednesday, November 6.
Commenting further Mr Mahama sexolaimed that humility is key in leadership and people in positions of power must not Lord it over them
“. You have to be humbled as a president and allow the people to honor you. How can he erect a statue in his own honor?
John Mahama also called out the President for piling pressure on Universities to award him degrees.
” It would have been proper for you to sit for the Universities to reflect on your leadership and award you same if it’s deserving. He has hoodwinked all the universities to award him honorary Doctorate Degrees and I don’t know what he is using that for” he intimated
