I am very disappointed in our parliamentarians – Pres. of Catholic Bishop’s Conference

President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi has lashed out at Members of Parliament over the recent confusion in the House.

He has described their behavior as “a real disgrace and a big disappointment”.

The House has been thrown into a state many have variously described as a constitutional stalemate as the NPP and NDC sides each claim to constitute the Majority caucus.

This followed Speaker Bagbin’s declaration of the Agona West, Suhum, Amenfi Central and Fomena seats vacant after the incumbets had crossed carpet. The Speaker was on Tuesday, consequently compelled to adjourn the House indefinitely owing to a lack of consensus between the parties on the way forward.

But, Most Rev. Dr. Gyamfi tells 3FMSunrise Morning show on October 24 that Parliamentarians must get their priorities right. “Parliamentarians should come together and agree on the things that Ghanaians need. That is what we are interested in.”

In calling for peace, calm and reason to prevail, the catholic cleric told show host Johnnie Hughes that the House has betrayed the nation and both NDC and NPP MPs must put their differences aside and serve Mother Ghana.

“I believe now all our Parliamentarians should see that they have betrayed the nation. Therefore, they should come back with new resolutions and be in a position to serve the nation rather than their personal interests.”

For the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, it doesn’t matter who forms Majority or Minority caucus as it does not minimize one’s capabilities provided the individual has a mindset of service to the Nation.
