I felt dead after Sudan defeat, but support brought me back – Otto Addo

Ghana coach Otto Addo has opened up on how the 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers affected him personally, but he credits the support of family and friends for helping him regain his focus.

Addo shared how emotionally challenging the past days have been but stated the positive role that feedback from family and friends has played in lifting his spirits.

“To be honest I was like, the last two days I was dead but now I got a lot of positive feedback also and a lot of support from family and friends and this is the time where I need them and also I think all the players, all the team needs it and this brought me back on track,” Addo said.

The loss to Sudan has left Ghana in a precarious situation, teetering on the brink of failing to qualify for the AFCON in Morocco.

Black Stars must now win against Angola and Niger and hope for Sudan to drop points if they are to secure a spot in the tournament.

This latest setback continues a string of disappointing results for the national team, which has struggled to make an impact on the international stage in recent years.

Ghana’s group-stage exits from the 2021 and 2023 AFCON and their early departure from the 2022 World Cup have only added to the mounting pressure on the team.
