It’s hypocrisy to say secular songs corrupt gospel artistes who listen to them – Joyce Blessing

Renowned Ghanaian gospel artiste Joyce Blessing has refuted the idea that listening to secular music detracts gospel singers from their spiritual well-being.

Some individuals including gospel artistes and some religious leaders have strongly opposed the idea of Christians and gospel artistes singing secular songs, stating that it goes against the Christian faith.

However, in an interview with 3FM, the “I Swerve” singer described such claims as “hypocrisy.”

According to her, there are some secular songs which are very motivational and have life-teaching messages for gospel singers.

“It’s not correct, it’s hypocrisy to say that. There are secular songs that are motivational,” Joyce Blessing stated.

She gave examples of motivational songs by different artistes such as Akwaboah, whose ‘No Pressure’ song she finds inspirational and Sarkodie, whose verse in the ‘Countryside’ song with Black Sherif she described as motivational.

She also mentioned Stonebwoy’s song “Strength and Hope” as another example.

Joyce Blessing emphasised that not all secular music is negative, and many songs can provide motivation and encouragement.
