Ministerial nominee for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Abla Dzifa Gomashie has assured that one of the key things her administration will immediately embark on is to revive the creative arts fund.
The ministerial nominee says after eight years of former President Akufo-Addo’s administration, she is oblivious of the status of the fund.
Creatives have in the past lamented about not benefitting from the fund anymore and how it has been neglected.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee, the Ketu South MP promised to revive the fund.
“I do not know where we stand with the status of the creative arts fund but it is one of the things that I have to do as soon as possible to see where it is and where we can take it from here,” she said.
The ministerial nominee further noted that her government will also explore further funding options for the sector.
“I think that the history is there that funding for sectors don’t always come from GoG only. It is the reason why we sort to ratify conventions from UNESCO so that it gives us the opportunity to tap from some funding they have also so its not necessarily just GoG.
“We do have the tourism levy, it is possible that we can probably add on but I will hasten cautiously and rely only on what we already have and see how we work around it and move forward with it,” Dzifa Gomashie explained.
She pledged to pay more attention tourist sites like that Mole National Park located in the Savannah Region.
“I agree with you that Mole for years has been one of the sites that is usually visited. What they probably need is more investment and it is an area where our country needs to focus more on to give more to the sector to we can bring in the required resources. I will be pushing the agenda for that,” she said.
