    Jerry Afriyie eyes Black Stars call-up

    CD Lugo forward Jerry Afriyie has expressed his openness of teaming up with the Black Stars ahead of March’s World Cup qualifiers.

    Afriyie made his Black Stars debut in Ghana’s final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Niger in November.

    The then Thoughts FC lad became the first-ever player to be called up to the national team from Ghana’s second Division.

    Afiyie took his moment with aplomb, scoring for Ghana in his cameo performance, which left him with a lot of admirers.

    His impressive cameo against Niger added up to his meteoric rise throughout his career after playing a starring role in Ghana’s 2023 African Games gold medal finish.

    Afiyie was also central to Ghana qualifying for the U-20 AFCON, where he was named Player of the Tournament and Top scorer.

    In the ongoing season, Afriyie, who is on loan from parent club Al Qadisiyah, has scored twice for CD Lugo.

    Asked by 3Sports on the allure of playing for the Black Stars during the World Cup qualifiers, Afriyie confidently remarked.

    “I will be very happy and glad if they called me because there is more [goals] on the way coming.

    Ghana currently lie second in Group I with nine points and are on course to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after a dismal AFCON qualifiers.
