Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has firmly dismissed rumours suggesting that star midfielder Kevin de Bruyne might be leaving the club.

De Bruyne, a key player in City’s squad, was instrumental in securing the Premier League title last season, marking the club’s fourth consecutive championship and his sixth since joining City.

Recently, De Bruyne has been linked with a potential move to Saudi Arabia, with reports indicating his interest in exploring new opportunities after an illustrious stint with the Cityzens. The Belgian midfielder has won every major club trophy during his time at City and has just one year remaining on his contract.

Last month, De Bruyne hinted that he would consider an offer from the Saudi Pro League due to the lucrative financial incentives.

However, Guardiola remains unfazed by these speculations. Speaking ahead of City’s opening pre-season game against Celtic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Guardiola was clear about De Bruyne’s future with the club.

“Kevin isn’t leaving,” he told reporters. “If someone leaves, we are going to talk about that and, of course, until the last day [of the transfer window] we have chances. I don’t rule out new players as an option, but I think there is an 85, 90, 95% chance we will have the same squad.”

Guardiola’s confidence suggests that Manchester City are likely to retain the core of its championship-winning squad as they prepare to defend their Premier League title.

City’s first match of the new season is set against Chelsea on August 18.
