Bjorkegren succeeds Nora Hauptle, whose contract expired, and has big shoes to fill. He was confirmed as the new head coach last month after signing a two-year deal with the Ghana FA.
The Swedish coach is set to hold his first official press conference on Friday, February 14, at the GFA Secretariat, where he will outline his plans for the team.
Bjorkegren’s first test will be a friendly match against North African giants, Morocco on Friday, 21 February 2025 in Casablanca. He will then focus on preparing the team for the rescheduled 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament, scheduled for July.
The Black Queens failed to progress beyond the group stage in their previous WAFCON appearance, and Bjorkegren will be aiming to improve the team’s performance and take them to the next level.
