Management of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital has told bereaved families that the hospital is undertaking a refurbishment of its cold room facilities to improve service delivery.
This was disclosed by the Mortuary Manager of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, George Dankyi, in an exclusive interview on February 4.
Mr Dankyi stated that “two out of the four fridges have developed faults, and we have been told by the engineers to off the fridge and move the bodies for refurbishment.”
“The refurbishment is expected to be completed within six weeks. Therefore, we kindly urged bereaved families with deceased relatives who have been in the mortuary for three to six weeks or longer to make immediate arrangements for burial or transfer to alternative facilities, ” he added.
According to the Manager, “we will be unable to accept fresh bodies or brought in dead cases during this period. However, this restriction does not apply to cases originating from Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital”.
The Public Relations Officer of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Mustapha Salifu, added that “we will try and contact their relations so that they can come and move their bodies, but we on our part we will also try to double up and see whether we can execute the work and then complete it before the limited time frame than what we announced”.
“We also want to apologize to the general public particularly to relatives of the deceased in the morgue that we are doing that just to enhance the service for all of us so they should cooperate with us to execute this exercise,” he pleaded.
