“Leaving Kotoko was a hard decision for me”- Kwame Opoku

Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Opoku says it was a hard decision to leave the Porcupine Warriors after his return to the club.

Opoku has rejoined the club, having departed in 2021 following an excellent season.

The former Olympique Khouribga forward was key for Kotoko before joining the Algerian-based outfit USM Alger.

In a recent interview with the club’s media team, Opoku recalled the emotional turmoil he experienced on the eve of his departure.

“Leaving Kotoko was a hard decision for me. The morning before my departure I felt bad about leaving a great club like Kotoko. It wasn’t easy because I had grown attached to the team and the supporters who made me feel at home” he said.

Before the move to Algeria, the 25-year-old striker made a significant impact, scoring nine goals and establishing himself as a vital cog in the team.

Despite, his exceptional displays, he departed Kotoko without securing any silverware – a situation he is resolute on rectifying on his return.

“I have to help the team as a whole to achieve its goals to win trophies and compete on the continent. I couldn’t win any trophy in my first stint but I believe this time I have a lot to offer,” he added.

Opoku, who was officially unveiled before Kotoko’s victory over Hearts of Oak last Sunday, is expected to forge a potent partnership with in-form striker Albert Amoah in the Porcupine Warriors’ attack.
